Twig opened for business in late 2007. Founder Shawn Slome believed it was time to start a business that focused on offering sustainable, organic and fairly traded goods. The timing proved prescient as environmental consciousness was becoming more mainstream.  Unfortunately, it  was also the time that the economy tanked.  Still, the store concept resonated with the community and its location next to a Whole Foods Market helped Twig weather the economic downturn. The business has since enjoyed steady growth as it enters its tenth year in business.

Why an Eco-shop? Shawn’s parents instilled respect for the environment. In the early 1970’s he was active in the environmental movement, which at the time, contributed to the passage of the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act and the founding of the EPA. He takes pleasure in offering goods that make sense in this day and age.

He and his wife designed and built a solar home which was completed in 2006.
